John Harrison

At the time of the Placeholder project, John Harrison was the Senior Research Analyst at the Banff Centre for the Arts. He was responsible for much of the graphics and interactivity development for 15 Virtual Reality pieces done in Banff from '91 through '94, including Perry Hoberman's "Barcode Hotel," Lawrence Paul's "Inherent Rights, Vision Rights," and, of course, "Placeholder", for which he was the Banff Centre's technical lead for the project. John has also worked at making microcomputers more accessible to artists at the Centre by helping develop a "Computer Studio" there. Before Banff, John taught Computer Science at Mount Royal College in Calgary. He holds a Master's degree in Computer Science, and enjoys hiking, back-country skiing, and microbrewery beer.

Currently, John is working for SOFTIMAGE Montreal. He is the software developer for Charlotte Davies' Virtual Reality installation, "Osmose," which premiered at the Musee d'Art Contemporain de Montreal in August,'95.
