As we speculated about how to make Snake special and different from the other Critters, we constructed a Snake renowned for its ability to navigate the dark landscapes of sex and death, that could see in the dark, possessing infrared vision as pit vipers do. We had thought to make the Cave World a dark place, so that Snake would be the only Critter able to see brightly and clearly in the Cave World; but we did not have time to implement this, or the perceptual differences for the other Critters, such as Spider's planned multiplicity of vision, Fish's blurry out of water vision, or Crow's bird-like sensitivity to specularity and movement. In the end, "snake vision" was the only perceptual quirk that we had time to implement, and the results were equivocal - people certainly knew when they were Snake, but the implementation was poor in that it simply applied a red filter without increasing apparent luminance, thus effectively reducing rather than enhancing visibility.
As with the other Critters, we used the same voice filter on both the pre-recorded dialogue recorded by the Precipice Theatre Company members and in real-time on the voice of a participant embodied as Snake - so Snake always sounded like Snake, whether speaking pre-recorded stored dialogue or with the live voice of a participant, including participants' speech recorded in Voiceholders.
