VR Framegrabs from the Three Worlds in Placeholder
As participants were immersed in the
Placeholder Worlds,
Rachel Strickland videotaped them on the performance floor - and slaved to her shoulder mounted Betacam video camera were two video tape recorders that simultaneously recorded the left eye view fed into each of the participant's VR helmets. Additionally, all of the
audio sources - the
Voice of the Goddess,
participants' vocalizations and their
recordings in
Voiceholders,
ambient sounds,
pre-recorded critter boasts,
story seeds, etc. - were mixed down from spatialized audio into ordinary stereo recorded on the videotape. While this is not a complete and scientific recording of how the participants ultilized the novel interface affordances of Placeholder, it nonetheless forms a fascinating record of how people reacted to the deconstruction of their bodies in the realm of the senses.
